Description

The Cryogenic Rare Event Search with Superconducting Thermometers (CRESST) is an experiment designed for direct dark matter detection via nuclear recoils. Located in the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Italy, CRESST utilizes cryogenic calorimeters equipped with Transition Edge Sensors (TES) operating in the millikelvin range. During the third phase (CRESST-III), energy thresholds of about 10eV have been reached, placing CRESST-III among the world-leading experiments in the search for sub-GeV dark matter. The low mass sensitivity of this and of comparable experiments is currently constrained by an unexplained increase of events below 200eV, referred to as the low energy excess (LEE). We will present the latest studies of the temporal behaviour and the energy spectrum of the LEE performed by CRESST.
