Description
The direct search of dark matter is a mature field in which performing improvements in sensitivity is utterly challenging. Besides scaling up the size of detectors, the most promising approach is the reduction of backgrounds. DarkSide-20k (DS-20k) has gone through a thorough characterization campaign to achieve the desired background level. The result of this is that the dominant source of events in the region of interest for WIMP searches will be CEvNS from atmospheric neutrinos.
In this talk I will present the most sensitive screening and cleaning techniques available to the DS-20k experiment and applied methods to verify the required radio-purity of materials bulk and surface. It is worth to mention that in DS-20k for the most relevant components the top, mid and the low parts of the U-chain, most likely in radioactive disequilibrium, are investigated separately. The campaign performed so far to select all the detector components, the surface activity requirements and the characterization of the background in the experimental hall (Hall C) will be discussed.
